Last Updated: 14 September 2026 - NSFAS has released a new circular regarding September 2026 allowances after student protests at South Cape TVET College George campus.
If you are waiting for your second semester NSFAS allowance, here is the official update. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme issued Circular Notice No 11 dated 8 September 2026 to clarify confusion from Notice No 10.
What Changed in September 2026 NSFAS Payment?
According to George Herald report, students protested on Wednesday 2 September 2026 at the George campus after delayed allowances. Some students said they did not receive first allowance for second semester, others received only half.
NSFAS confirmed in new circular:
- Earlier plan: Two allowance payments in September payment cycle
- NEW plan: Only ONE payment can be processed in September
- July 2026 outstanding allowance moved to October

- If you received half payment, keep your bank statement - NSFAS will reconcile in October

On 2 September, students gathered at Hibernia Street entrance blocking road with tyres and rocks. Police were called. Calm restored after NSFAS promised to resolve.
