The UNDP Russia Partnership Internship in Moscow is now open for applications from international students interested in international development, partnerships, and knowledge transfer. The intern will join the Russia-UNDP Partnership Team located in Moscow supervised by the New Partnerships and Emerging Donors Team of the UNDP Istanbul Regional Hub.

About the Internship

This internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of Russia's international development assistance and UN development programs. The Russia-UNDP Partnership Team manages the Trust Fund for Development and supports knowledge transfer from Russian institutions to developing countries, particularly Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Internship Tasks

The intern will be expected to assist the Russia Partnership Team in the following tasks:

  • Collection from open sources and analysis of information on current trends in providing international development assistance to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from donor countries, financial organizations, and UN organizations.
  • Assessments on urgent needs in external knowledge and expertise transfer to these countries in key economic sectors.
  • Mechanisms and tools of knowledge transfer from Russian governmental bodies and companies to governmental bodies in Central Asia.
  • Preparation of informational briefs and notes on official development assistance issues.
  • Logistical support to organizing joint UNDP - UNV seminars on partnership of Russia with UN Volunteers.
  • Support day-to-day operations and other ad hoc tasks.

Eligibility and Benefits

Applicants must be enrolled in a master's or final year bachelor's in international relations, economics, development studies, or related field. Strong research and analytical skills required. Knowledge of Russian language is a strong advantage. Interest in development assistance is essential.

The aim of the internship is to enhance theoretical knowledge through substantive engagement with sustainability practices of UNDP while assisting with initiatives already in place. This is an excellent entry point for UN career in Moscow.

New Russian Internship Law 2027

In related news, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new law on July 26, 2026 that introduces a formal paid internship format for graduates. Starting March 1, 2027, employers can hire graduates under fixed-term employment contracts for up to six months with assigned mentor, salary, work experience, pension and sick leave benefits. This applies if contract signed within one year after graduation.
